Today my Dictionary.com word of the day was Fructuous, meaning fruitful; productive. Fructuous comes from Latin fructuosus, from fructus, "enjoyment, product, fruit," from the past participle of frui, "to enjoy."
Today I had a very fructuous day. I’m a part of the team that will be looking after the tech journalists who attend Tech.Ed 2007. Tech.Ed is Microsoft’s conference for all its developers, IT professionals and general Microsoft enthusiasts. It’s highly technical… and when I say highly I mean talking in code I can’t for the life of me fathom.
I inwardly grown when I hear the word Tech.Ed because it always means technical education of some sort for me. Let me give you an example, last year Tech.Ed was held just prior to the launch of Windows Vista. Windows Vista is one of the main product campaigns that I work on for the Microsoft account, so I had to get down and dirty with Vista and all that comes with it. Last year that meant learning about Windows Imaging Format a feature in Vista that provides the ability to service images easier, including adding updates and device drivers to them offline — without creating a new image. Who would have known I was that techie!
So this year it has started again, my technical education. This evening I had a very fructuous search engine session to learn all about Microsoft’s IO Model. What does IO stand for… let alone what does it do? Well during my fructuous evening I found out IO stands for Infrastructure Optimisation… and what is that? An IO Model helps customers realise dramatic cost savings for their IT infrastructure by moving from an unmanaged environment towards a dynamic environment… basically, looking at your IT system and figuring out how it can help your business succeed.
I’m pretty impressed with my fructuous technical education J Are you?
